Meet the Principals

Dear MMES Families,

For the third year in a row, Munger made big leaps in our overall growth and success as a school. Much of this is measured through our State of Wyoming assessment system, but so much is missed through that narrow, English-only lens. If you were fortunate to visit us last spring during the 5th grader promotion ceremony, you witnessed authentic student presentations, through writing, art and conversation, about their biliteracy journey and time at Munger. That same class also represented the first class to walk through MMES as kindergartners, and head to 6th grade as full-time Lobos! They were a group of 73 students, the biggest 5th grade class in TCSD last year, and included 18 students from Mexico, Columbia, and Guatemala that arrived in the US over the preceding years. Well, I’m happy to report that class, and the rest of our student body, met or exceeded our highest marks on all our State measurements in language arts, math, science, and second language proficiency!

That does not happen alone, without the support of our teachers, interventionists, specialists, support staff, and families. What we do at Munger is unique in our county, in our State, and pretty rare across the western region. I am prouder than ever to work at Munger, feel so lucky to send my own children to our school, and to work alongside our amazing staff and families.

There is always a lot of information to start a school year, so please take the time to read through the rest of this letter! The front office is up and running, so feel free to call Kristen or Melany with questions at 307-733-3020.

Enjoy the last days of summer, and we will see you soon!

School Administrators Get a Break Too!

From Dan - A phrase we learned long ago in our house is, “Redline the fun meter!” And, that is the goal every summer. Sometimes we’re limping into September as we cram in so much, but the memories are nice to have as the days get shorter in October and November. We were very lucky this summer to spend time with family playing on the lakes of Michigan, rowing down the rivers of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho, and enjoying all kinds of local dirt biking, hiking, climbing, paddling, swimming and camping adventures here at home. Even though the summer is running out, we have a few more days of river travel and fun planned with friends and family. Jack and Maeve are heading into 1st and 4th grade, and that has come faster than I ever expected!

From Carrie - What another great summer in Jackson Hole! I couldn’t ask for anything more! My family and I took a quick trip to Disneyland in June to get our Mickey Mouse fix, and then we settled in to lake time, hiking/running adventures, simply relaxing, and shuttling kids to and from activities. Finn wrapped up his sophomore year and worked at the Bird this summer. He’s super excited for the snow to start flying already! Fern did a bit of babysitting, practiced with the JHHS Dance Team, and did another year at TVRC with GAP! She’s thrilled to be starting high school, and I am thrilled to be starting my 5th year as AP of MMES! Let’s go Lobos!
Enjoy the last week of summer, and we will see you soon!
